Art Camp

Creative Kids Art Camp is an exciting holiday activity programme in North Devon, where children get to enjoy enriching and authentic art activities, which nurture and enhance creativity, expression and artistic techniques. And, of course its loads of fun!!

The sessions run for the first 5 Wednesdays of the summer holidays (dates below), from 9am – 4pm at Umberleigh Academy.

Sessions include 2 snack breaks, and a lunch break. Snacks and water will be provided, and children should bring a packed lunch, which we will enjoy outside as a picnic as much as possible.

Art camp days cost £30 a day. If 4 or more sessions are booked, all sessions will be £25 a day.

Sibling discounts are offered at 20% off a day for 2 children. (to book more than 2 children in the same family, please contact me).

Each child will receive an art journal to take home, and an apron to design. All materials, snacks and drinks are included.

To book your sessions, click here to submit it online , or you can you click here to download it. You can print it off, fill it out and send me a picture of it, or pop it in the post (please ask me for address).

The day

We adopt a flexible, child led approach to the flow of activities, and follow the Waldorf ethos of a ‘rhythm of the day’ to inspire and organise the way the camps work. With this in mind we have a loose schedule which the children will fill with their enthusiasm, energy and ideas. Every session will be different, depending on weather, the particular children enrolled, and our own planning, so if your child comes for one session, or all the sessions, they will have a unique, fun-packed and enriching day! We believe in providing a full day of creative opportunities by offering prompts, materials, time, space and encouragement! We will be outside as much as possible!!

–          Painting techniques

–          Print making

Why is art important??

Art gives children so many things. Here are just a few of them:

–          Art is fun!

–          It develops Imagination and Creativity – which are important in childhood and adulthood!

–          It gives children opportunities for sensory engagement, which is vital in child development for so many reasons!

–          Art allows for self-expression, which improves mental and physical wellbeing

–          It provides opportunity for learning – art has been proven to enhance literacy development in young children, not to mention learning in science, maths, language, history, geography and culture…

–          Art improves fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and even gross motor skills.

–          Collaborative art offers so many possibilities for teamwork, communication, friendship building skills, leadership development and lots more!

These are just some of the reasons why I whole heartedly believe art is vital for children (and grown ups!)!
